Slave-spin mean field methods for correlated electron systems, and applications

I will introduce a mapping for correlated fermions that makes use of spin-1/2 slave variables. Even in the simplest approximation for the auxiliary field non-trivial results are obtained, like the Brinkman-Rice description of the Mott transition. This semi-analytical method is naturally implemented in multi-orbital models where it outperforms in many respects other analogous techniques like slave-bosons.
