We study the statistics of rare events in Markov-Luzhnikov model of coalescence. The problem reduces to the study of the instanton equation, which turns out to be a Smoluchowski equation augmented by a 'cosmological' term, which makes is well-posed even for gelling kernels. For a number of classical kernels, the equation can be solved exactly, leading to the exact expression for the rate function. The study of the latter reveals some interesting properties of the statistics of the mass flux, i. e. a variant of the fluctuation relation.
