Superfluidity of a quasi-two-dimensional Bose gas

Ultracold degenerate atomic samples have proven useful to simulate complex many-body phenomena, as for example the Bose-Hubbard model or the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) transition [1]. This talk focuses on the latter phenomenon in a quasi-two-dimensional trapped Bose gas. After a brief review of recent experiments on this topic, I will show that the study of specific collective modes of the partially degenerate gas allows to locate the BKT crossover [2], within the local density approximation.
